Feature
Security Profile - Jail Facility
Many
jails were originally designed and constructed more than
20 to 50 years ago. Today the latest security devices
and procedures need to be in place. The profile below
details added security for the expansion/renovation of
a central Illinois jail facility.
The
facility was expanded to add additional cell space, a new classification
area, healthcare area, vehicle sally port, four new housing pods,

new special housing units, a new booking/intake area and evidence
storage facility. Due to the magnitude of the facility expansion and
the length
of time that the existing systems were already in service, it was
decided by the architect that system upgrades and replacements were
required... that's where Thompson Electronics Company's security expertise
comes in.
Central
Control
The nerve center of the jail facility is central control. Full control of all
cells is maintained by the security office using graphic panels that show the
status of all doors and allow the complete control of door locking, intercom,
CCTV and paging systems. The operation of the existing control consoles was
maintained during the facility technology changeover. New consoles containing
the new hardware were fabricated to match the existing consoles. Cabinets for
mounting the new CCTV monitors were constructed and mounted on top of the existing
control cabinet.
Replacing
an obsolete CCTV switching system.
The consultants for the facility decided that the existing CCTV switching
system was obsolete.
A Vicon matrix system including speed dome, multiplexes,
quad
units
and real
time event recorders. New monitors and CCTV equipment were
installed in existing and or expanded security control consoles located
in "Central Control". A
new access
control system allows for more complete authorized facility access.
Cell "Pod" Areas.
Each cell pod is equipped with an individual control panel that allows
for complete control of the cells and associated rooms. The control panels
allow officers control of individual cell doors, complete voice intercom
and paging access to the facility via the digital intercom system and local
CCTV control.
