The Peoria County Juvenile
Detention Center was
constructed to serve
the growing population
of Peoria County. In
the past they had to
relocate the juveniles
to other facilities.
The new facility was
built adjacent to the
Peoria County Jail
on Maxwell Road.

Need for Integration
To maintain and operate
this facility it
was important to
integrate security, fire,
and communications systems
into one central control.
The capacity of the detention
center is 63 juveniles. The
facility consists of four
classrooms, a library and
computer room, on-site medical
services, outdoor exercise
area, suicide prevention room,
booking/intake area, vehicle
sallyport, and visitation area.

Central control is
the hub of all integrated
technology systems.
This area has full control
of all cells. The
security officer
maintains the facility
by using graphic
panels to show the
status of all doors
and gives them complete
control of intercom,
CCTV, and the paging
system.

Video Surveillance
Video surveillance is placed
throughout the facility.
The network of cameras are
monitored by officers
in the control console area.
The cameras may be instantly
called up for close scrunity
as required.
Communications
The Dukane Intercom
System not only
works as a
typical intercom/paging
system, it
also has a
audio disturbance
alarm. This
voice activated
device notifies
central control
by the noise
level in the
juveniles cell.
The system
automatically
makes the officer
aware of a
disturbance
and shows the
specific location
that
needs attention. |
