The Cole County Courthouse was in need of a panic alarm system to monitor all departments housed in the courthouse. When considering future needs it was determined that the system should have the capability to grow as security requirements increased. The system installed at Coles County monitors 72 panic alarms and has the capability to integrate access control, photo badging and closed circuit television. A central foundation permits the county to add to the system as the budget allows. The end result is a fully integrated security system instead of a mixture of incompatible equipment.

The panic alarm system is monitored from a main computer in the Sheriff's Department located across the street. This computer automatically notifies the dispatch officer of any alarm occurring at the courthouse. When a panic alarm is activated in the courthouse the alarm is displayed with a "pop up" message on screen. The message is tailored with exact information necessary to respond to the alarm. After the alarm is displayed, the operator uses the computer mouse to acknowledge the alarm. In addition to displaying the alarm message the computer can save and print the messages in report form.
