The Champaign County Correctional Center was originally constructed in the early 1980's. The facility used state of the art (for the time period) communications, surveillance and control hardware. Over time, these systems have needed maintenance and upgrades. The needs of the Sheriff's department has also changed over time and a jail renovation project was initiated that included replacement of the intercom, CCTV and door control systems.

The existing control panels were replaced with graphic control panels allowing the corrections office complete control over point to point communications as well as door release functions from single integrated control panels. These panels were located in the place of existing control panels so that minimal modifications were required to existing control panels so that minimal modifications were required to the existing metal work.

Smaller control panels were fabricated for jail pods that allow correctional officer the ability to control activities in the pods independent of the central control.

The main control panel in the central control provides easily understood graphics that guide the operation of the door control, intercom and CCTV system. These graphic control panels are constructed in a fashion the allows for easy component replacement for future repairs.

All cameras, lenses and mounts in the facility were replaced with updated equipment designed to provide excellent video coverage of movement areas. All cameras report back to new switching and control equipment integrated to the new control panels. The video images are displayed on new monitors installed in a fashion that improves sight lines for the correctional officers for viewing video and live images.
Intelligent design, solid equipment vendors and skilled installation by Thompson Electronics Company assure that the Champaign County Correctional Facility will continue to serve the community economically and safely for years to come.
