Each classroom is equipped with a multifunction control panel that includes full intercom, telephone, clock, local public address, video and data communications. This panel facilitates media retrieval from the media center. Videocassettes, laser discs, cable television and locally produced video are among the sources that may be selected and controlled by the teachers from the classroom. Time is displayed in large LED characters on displays in each classroom. Time displayed on the classroom panels is synchronized with WWV, the broadcast standard for the Department of Commerce National Standards Institute. The LED displays may also be used as test timers, or may display the word "fire" in the event of a fire alarm. Video all call or in house video productions may be originated from any classroom equipped with a media panel. These productions may be broadcasted throughout the school and /or recorded in the media center.

Each gymnasium (main gym and small gym) is equipped with a full range sound system incorporating components selected for their ability to produce well defined, controlled sound. The systems are designed as point source systems to minimize secondary sound reflections. In this way system intelligibility is increased and overall sound performance is enhanced.
|
The football field is located behind the school, adjacent to an interstate highway. Sound for the field utilizes horn speakers aimed directly at the seating areas. This provides controlled sound, applied to the seating areas, minimizing sound overflow outside the football field.

The head end control and the media racks were placed in the Media Center. Staff in this location controls all programming, scheduling, loading of tapes and other media sources. The racks are neatly wired and provide easy access for maintenance and programming of school calendar events that are displayed on television in the classroom.

The performing arts theater is truly a multipurpose room. Expanded, the room seats 500 for theatrical productions. With the retractable seating removed, room dividers allow the creating of 2 large classrooms and a small auditorium with seating for 200. Each of the areas may be served by one sound system. The control room for the performing arts center is equipped with a state of the art sound and lighting system which rivals installations in many universities. The school has the capability to host many types of theatrical and musical performances.

All of the systems installed at Normal Community West High School are designed to the highest standards and demonstrate the commitment of Normal Community Unit School District 5 to the education of their students.
