The
Audio Design Process
State-of-the-Art
Design
Guaranteeing performance before
it is built...
Thompson Electronics uses Goldline Speech Intelligibility
and Privacy Measurement System to give precise measurements
in designing audio systems. These measurements are used
to quantify the intelligibility of sound systems. We also
utilize several other computer design programs to speed
up the design process and verify calculations, ie. EASE
modeling, Smaart analysis. These programs allow us to
guarantee the performance of the proposed system prior
to installation.
| System
Design Evaluation |
- Accurate
analysis of the rooms acoustics.
- Speaker selection and proper
location.
- Prediction of consistency
in coverage of sound.
- Prediction of intelligibility.
|
Specifications
| When
designing a system we focus on primary concerns of: |
- Intelligibility
- Consistency in sound coverage
for the desired seating area
- Adequate sound pressure
level without distortion or feedback
- Naturalness
|
|
These
are specifications that can be calculated in the
design process and then measured after the system
is installed.
Our designs always include guaranteed performance specifications, indicating
how well the proposed system will work. These specifications are based on industry
standards for sound performance and vary depending on the performance and operational
needs of the system. |

Improper
Design
Does this describe your
present sound system? |
- "Our
sound system squeals whenever we try to turn
up the volume."
- “I can't understand
what is being said.”
- "Adequate sound pressure
level without distortion or feedback."
- “It seems much louder
in the center of the room than it
does along the sides.”
|
|
| These types of symptoms
are indications that the speaker system (old or new)
was not designed for the room it is being used in.
Audio system design is a complex process that combines
operational expectations, room acoustics, aesthetics,
electronics and mechanics. |
When properly approached, audio
system design is a process that can result in a total
media experience.
